Amazon has introduced its first discount on the MacBook Neo
Apple's most affordable portable Mac is now slightly cheaper

The first price cut has been introduced on the larger storage variant of the MacBook Neo, courtesy of Amazon, meaning that you get a 512GB SSD and Touch ID capabilities for just $689.99. While the discount might not seem like much, it is important to remember that Apple is already selling this portable Mac at an insanely low price, so even if you wait now for a chance at a bigger price drop, the discount may not be all that much.

All Windows-powered notebooks in the $689.99 price range won’t offer the same value as the MacBook Neo

Instead of plastic, Apple resorted to a unibody aluminum chassis for the MacBook Neo, which is rare to see on a $689.99 notebook. The 13-inch IPS LCD has a crisp 2,408 x 1,506 resolution, with a maximum brightness level of 500 nits. Unlike other Apple Silicon Macs, the MacBook Neo sports an A18 Pro, not an M-series SoC, but it is still powerful enough to run Cyberpunk 2077, giving you an idea of its capabilities.

The unified memory is limited to 8GB RAM, regardless of which storage version you purchase, and that’s not necessarily Apple’s fault because it’s the way the A18 Pro has been designed. Still, the chipset is no slouch in the performance department because its single-threaded and multi-threaded prowess blows any competitor in the aforementioned price range.

Despite the MacBook Neo shipping with a rather small 36WHr battery, Apple says that users can experience runtimes of up to 16 hours in video streaming and up to 11 hours in web browsing. Fortunately, charging the machine is a piece of cake because all you need is a 20W USB-C power brick to get the job done. What’s great about the lower wattage is that any standard powerbank can top up the MacBook Neo.

Assuming you want to stay in Apple’s macOS ecosystem but want something with a bit more kick, we recommend getting the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air, which starts from $1,049 after a $50 discount on Amazon, giving you 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD as part of the specifications.
