When Samsung announced its DeX Station alongside the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the company stated that the accessory that turns your smartphone into a workable desktop substitute will only be compatible with the latest flagship smartphone duo. However, it looks like Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile-powered Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950 are also compatible with the DeX Station. A video posted online shows that the smartphone is not only able to get docked in the DeX Station, but it can also be used to branch out the desktop experience for you.
Video Shows That Lumia 950 Is Completely Compatible and Functional With the Samsung DeX Station
Microsoft unveiled its Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL back in 2015 while introducing a Display Dock accessory with the two smartphones. Even though Samsung has stated that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be compatible with the DeX Station, it looks like someone was just curious enough to see what would happen should a Lumia 950 get plugged in it.
Gazcart posted a video on YouTube where it can be seen that the Lumia 950 (which also features a Type-C USB port) can be inserted effortlessly in the Samsung DeX Station and using the combination of an HDMI cable and available monitor, your smartphone experience can be ported to that available display.
While this is exciting to hear, it should be noted that the compatibility of a Lumia 950 with a DeX Station does not bring anything different to the table other than wide-range compatibility option and different operating system. In fact, some readers might argue that the pairing of the Galaxy S8 with the accessory is a much better option since users will have access to a myriad number of productivity applications that will not be present on the Windows 10 Mobile platform.
If you have an available Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL, then it would not hurt you to purchase a Samsung DeX Station because if you’re used to seeing and using Windows 10, then it should be a terrific addition to your workspace.
