Lenovo Combines Intel Core Ultra CPUs With LPCAMM2 Memory In ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 Laptop 1

Lenovo has unveiled the world's first laptop that combines Intel's Core Ultra CPUs with the next-gen LPCAMM2 memory from Micron.

Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 Laptop Launches: Intel Core Ultra CPUs, NVIDIA RTX GPUs, LPCAMM2 Memory, & AI Ready Design

Lenovo has updated its laptop portfolio with its first AI-Ready mobile workstation featuring Intel Core Ultra vPro CPUs and more. It is powered by up to a Core Ultra 9 chip which features 16 cores and 22 threads running at up to 5.1 GHz coupled with 24 MB of smart cache. Although these chips pack an Intel Arc "Xe-LPG" iGPU with up to 8 Xe-Cores, no mobile workstation is complete without a discrete graphics solution and the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 supports up to NVIDIA's RTX 3000 "Ada" GPU, offering 4608 CUDA cores and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 laptop comes with a 16-inch screen which has a 16"10 aspect ratio and 92% screen-to-body ratio in a very slim package that measures just 17.05mm (thickness). The top cover is made from recycled aluminum which not only ensures an eco-friendly design but also leads to lighter weight in a very durable body.

As for performance, Lenovo is touting up to 330 system-level TOPs which is a combination of the GPU and Core Ultra chip itself. The NVIDIA RTX 3000 Ada produces around 318 TOPs of peak tensor core performance (INT8) whereas the Intel Core Ultra NPU provides 11 TOPs with the rest coming from the CPU and iGPU. The laptop is marketed as an AI-first mobility workstation so it's clear why the computing performance is highlighted in these workloads.

Another interesting design choice for the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 laptop is the use of LPCAMM2 7467 MT/s memory. This makes this generation ThinkPad the first laptop from Lenovo to pair Core Ultra CPUs with the newest LPCAMM2 memory standard. A single module is used which can offer up to 64 GB of system memory. The laptop also features two M.2 slots and a dual-fan cooling solution which is equipped with a large central heatsink with massive heat pipes covering the CPU & the GPU.

Furthermore, the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 is the world’s first mobile workstation to include LPDDR5x LPCAMM2 memory, up to 64GB. LPCAMM2, which is brought to market by Micron in collaboration with Lenovo, delivers one of the fastest energy efficient modular memory solutions for PCs. Consuming up to 61% less active power and with 64% space savings compared to DDR5 SODIMM3, LPCAMM2 delivers higher bandwidth and dual-channel support with a single module and is an ideal high-performance memory solution for mobile workstations and AI PC workloads.
