There hasn't been any official confirmation of this speculation but seems like the Wall Street Journal was apt about this claim as the champagne colored iPhone's rear shell can now be seen via some leaked photos in high quality.
Evidence from multiple sources have indeed confirmed the existence of a gold iPhone 5S. These high quality images have been released directly from Apple's supply chain. These images show the next Apple flagship's rear based heavily in gold - replacing the silver areas of previous iPhones. These images have been published by the Sonny Dickson, showing off the gleaming gold iPhone 5S in its full charm. Apart from the color, iPhone 5S is expected to remain identical to its predecessor like the previous iPhone models.

The Apple iPhone 5C which will be a cheaper smart phone sporting a polycarbonate finish which will be made available in a plenty of colors.
