Apple has significantly upgraded the camera hardware on its iPhones, starting with introducing high-resolution 48MP sensors, to bringing telephoto units, and later this year, the company will make history by bringing variable aperture technology to the iPhone 18. However, none of these additions are useful if there’s little to no software control, which is why the latest report states that iOS 27 is bringing a major change that will cater to both casual and professional users.
A more customizable Camera app is arriving on iOS 27, allowing users to tweak a multitude of settings to capture their ideal image
A new report from Bloomberg states that the Camera app in iOS 27 is expected to receive quite a change as users will be able to change settings like photo styles, resolution, flash, exposure, timer, depth of field, and more, bringing even more versatility to the table. It will also be easier for users to access these functions faster, because camera controls, which are labeled as widgets, can be placed at the top of the Camera interface in any order.
With the Camera app open, users can select widgets from a transparent widget tray, with these widgets being organized into basic, manual, and settings categories. The layout for the Camera flash, Live Photos, and Night Mode will remain default for now, but the customizable interface will have a more advanced layout that will appeal to the professional crowd.
The changes arriving to iOS 27 are interesting, given that Apple is expected to introduce variable aperture technology to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max for the first time. However, the Bloomberg report hasn’t mentioned whether these customizations will include manually adjusting the aperture value depending on the surrounding light. If this is actually the case, Apple’s upcoming flagships could become the new standard for professional-grade photography and videography without requiring any add-ons.
