The design of the iPhone Fold has been reported to be a complicated endeavor for Apple, particularly achieving a crease-less front display, but according to the latest update, the technology giant has achieved a new milestone. Based on the latest rumor, the company’s first foldable smartphone has entered mass production at Foxconn, putting all competitors on notice that there’s a new player in town and things are going to heat up real fast.

Mass production update surrounding the iPhone Fold indicates that Apple has established success with the crease-less display

Several images were doing their usual rounds on X, showcasing the wider aspect ratio of the iPhone Fold, with the design mimicking a book to maximize screen real estate and improve portability. However, the external shell wouldn’t be as difficult to master as the inner display. Where other manufacturers have tried their level best to mitigate the crease, it’s still visible from certain angles, particularly when light shines directly on the panel.

Based on Majin’s post on X, Apple has scaled this obstacle, offering a crease-less experience with no blemish on the iPhone Fold, though it remains to be seen how well the technology is implemented. The Cupertino firm has been reported to have achieved this crease-less milestone before, while on other occasions, Apple was said to be experiencing problems, resorting to Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) technology in varying thicknesses to address the issue.

The company has also been reported to incorporate polyimide film (PI) on top of UTG to improve scratch resistance, which will increase the total component cost but offer significantly better protection. Given that Majin has a better track record than the majority of sources, we’re inclined to believe the iPhone Fold has entered mass production. According to Weibo tipster Momentary Digital, Apple’s first foldable smartphone was scheduled to enter manufacturing in July.

It’s possible that the California-based titan decided to speed up the timeline because each iPhone Fold unit will require meticulous levels of inspection, especially the inner display, before it is packaged and sold globally. This process will take longer than inspecting ‘candy bar’ iPhones, suggesting there may not be sufficient stock available when the initial shipments begin their rounds.

Perhaps the start of 2027 will ensure that there will be adequate units available for the masses, even if the iPhone Fold is expected to be stamped with a hefty base price of $2,000. Still, with an estimated 20 million units to be shipped worldwide, Apple will create a ton of trouble for competitors, who have been trying to move this category of devices for years but haven’t been able to garner success.
