Apple and its engineers have sought various methods and techniques to make the iPhone Fold stand out against the competition, and according to the latest report, they have finally achieved that feat. The crease-free design, which all current foldable smartphone makers, including Samsung, have failed to implement due to a multitude of complications, has been adopted by the Cupertino firm, with the device now entering engineering validation and pre-production stages.

Foxconn has already established a dedicated assembly line for the iPhone Fold, with three component manufacturers benefiting from the upcoming launch

The display size and assembly process were previously rumored to have been finalized, though the battery capacity was still undecided, and the hinge was under development. According to United Daily News, the crease problem has been resolved, and the iPhone Fold is no longer stuck in its experimental stages, as it has gravitated to the engineering validation and pre-mass production phase. Aside from Foxconn, component manufacturers such as Largan Precision, Shin Zu Shing, and Chi Hong are expected to benefit from the foldable flagship launch.

While the inner display is reportedly supplied by Samsung, the bearing has been jointly developed by Apple and two suppliers, Shin Zu Shing and Amphenol. When the bearing and panel have been integrated, the crease that typically shows up in other foldable devices will not materialize on the iPhone Fold. The trillion-dollar technology titan is also focusing on developing high-strength hinge components made of liquid metal. This material has an extremely high tolerance and durability, making it ideal for use in the upcoming foldable flagship.

Previously, Apple had been experiencing immense difficulty in mass manufacturing this component at a cheaper rate. Fortunately, a separate report has stated that the hinge’s average selling price will fall in the $70 to $80 range. Unfortunately, the latest update does not mention when the iPhone Fold will enter mass production, but Apple is expected to unveil it alongside the iPhone 18 series, which will only comprise the ‘Pro’ models as the company is following a different launch strategy for 2026.
