iPhone 5S Production Begins This Quarter, Release Pegged In Summer
Here's yet another iPhone 5S rumor, though this one comes from a very established source. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple will begin iPhone 5S production this quarter, this will be in time for a release in Summer. As always, WSJ cites people familiar with the matter. According to them it is going to be similar in shape and size to the iPhone 5.
Apart from touching on the iPhone 5S subject, the report also mentions the much rumored low cost iPhone that we have been hearing about for quite some time now. Their "people" claim that Apple is working closely with its manufacturers in Asia and a low cost iPhone could be released in the second half of 2013. It will have a 4-inch screen and its casing will be different than that of the expensive iPhone. Apple has reportedly tried many different color casings but it has yet to decide on one. Apple does not have an official standing on this product, and their spokespersons have vehemently denied commenting on the low cost iPhone.
If Apple does come out with a low cost iPhone, it would confirm the observation that the company feels threatened by the infiltration of mid-range smartphone market by Android devices. There's a lot of money to be made in that particular market and Apple has no presence whatsoever in it. A low cost iPhone would put Apple in a much better position, considering simply how staggering the brand value is of the iPhone. Apple certainly knows that and it is definitely going to cash in on that.
As far as the iPhone 5S is concerned, it is safe to say that it will be a standard affair. There will be no design changes. Internal hardware will be updated and it will come with iOS 7. Hardware updates and new software based features, that is what we can expect from the iPhone 5.
