Three students went on a canyoneering adventure in Utah and were stuck without a cellular network, according to KUTV. The canyon housed various pools with unmeasured levels of water. Student Mumford and Jeremy were able to cross one of the pools after being stuck for an hour. They decided to move ahead and continued deeper. The second pool was even deeper, which caused them not to move ahead. After hours of fighting to get out, the students had no choice but to contact emergency services. Unfortunately, due to the remote nature of the canyon, the students were unable to call for help as the area had no cellular coverage.
Luckily, Apple's Emergency SOS feature via Satellite in iPhone 14 came to the students' aid. After resting for hours in shoulder-deep water, two of the students showed signs of hypothermia. To their luck, the third student had an iPhone 14, which was used to contact 911 for emergency services. Mumford stated that a satellite lined up at their location every 20 minutes, which allowed him to contact 911. He had to put the phone up to connect it to the satellite, and once a connection was made, the student was able to send a text to the relevant authorities.
The students did manage to get out of the shallow waters, but they were still stuck in a hole that was approximately 10 to 15 feet.
