Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sony Ericsson Xperia phones delayed
Sony was one of the first companies to officially declare their Xperia line up would be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012. They've just released a beta ICS ROM for Xperia Play which can be downloaded here. It's beta in its purest sense and is missing quite a lot of essential features. You don't get WiFi support and Google services are missing which means it's basically not for end customers but for developers to get a sneak peek. While releasing a beta ROM might mean the final build is right around the corner, unfortunately Sony has stated the update has been delayed ever so slightly.
Back in December 2012 Sony Ericsson said we'd get the update by March. However with the delay the release date has been pushed to mid-April for the Xperia Arc S, Neo V, and Ray. Xperia Arc and Play would get their updates in May/June. This is a substantial delay from the initial March release date. Sony has also stated the update wont be OTA and that users will have to install it manually. That is certainly extremely odd and we'll wait for Sony to shed some light on this.
