How to Generate Battery Health Reports on Windows 10

Are you concerned about the battery life of your Windows 10 device? If your Windows 10 PC's battery behavior has grown a little suspicious, health reports can help you find out what's happening. You could either fill up your PC with third-party apps in order to find that out the hard way or you could simply follow the steps below to generate a detailed health report of the battery on your Windows 10 device.

Generate Windows 10 battery health report using Command Prompt:

  1. Open the Start menu and type cmd in the search bar. Right-click on the Command Prompt app and Run as administrator.

  2. In Command Prompt, type the command below and press Enter to create and save the report at the destination folder.

    powercfg /batteryreport /output "C:\battery_report.html"

  3. The system will inform you when the file has been successfully created and saved.
  4. Simply press Windows key + E to access This PC app and head to the C: drive as shown below.
  5. You will see a battery-report HTML file as you go to the C: drive. Double-click on it to open it in your browser.

Using Windows PowerShell:

  1. Open the Start menu and type powershell in the search bar. Right-click on the Windows PowerShell app and Run as administrator.

  2. Type the command below in PowerShell and press Enter to generate the report.

    powercfg /batteryreport /output "C:\battery_report.html"

  3. The system will notifiy you once the report has been successfully generated.

  4. Simply press Windows key + E to access This PC app and head to the C: drive as shown below.
  5. You will see a battery-report HTML file as you enter the C: drive. Double-click on it to open it in your browser.

How to analyze Windows 10 battery report:

  1. The first segment contains the information of your system including the Computer Name, OS build, Platform Role, etc.
  2. The second segment includes the specs of the installed batteries such as the manufacturer’s name, design capacity with reference to full charge capacity, cycle count, and its chemistry.
  3. The third segment informs you about the Recent Usage of your battery within the last 3 days where you can view the usage and the charging patterns of your device.
  4. The fourth segment also includes a graph that indicates the usage and charging patterns of the battery on your device.

  5. If you scroll down to the bottom, you can see a comparison between the battery runtime when the OS was installed versus the original design capacity.

These instructions can help you monitor the status of your battery’s health and performance including the runtime. This feature can also help you predict when your battery would need to be replaced therefore you can prep for it before time.
