Gun Interactive's asymmetrical horror game The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will not receive any new content updates or bug fixes after its next patch release sometime this month.

The studio made the announcement in a blog post on its website, with the message that this is the end of the journey for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but not for Gun Interactive, which tells players to "stay tuned" for what's next from the studio.

Perhaps most notable about this announcement is that, at least for now, the game will not be taken offline and is not being delisted from digital storefronts. So, for the foreseeable future, fans of the game will still be able to play it, and new players will still be able to buy it and jump in.

However, it's difficult to imagine that this game won't just become another online-only game that goes away entirely once it does get delisted and the servers are shut down. The fact that it is tied to a larger license could also give it a shorter shelf life, and with Gun Interactive officially moving on, the addition of an offline mode feels entirely unlikely.

"We feel proud of the game we've made and we're happy that we're at a point where we feel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has reached its full potential," the studio writes in its blog post.

"From the very beginning, we've always had a clear and concise vision for this game. We wanted to push the envelope on multiplayer asymmetrical horror, shed light on this iconic film to a newer generation, and place folks into the beautiful but macabre world of Muerto County and we feel we have achieved that...And at this point, we feel that we have seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre fully realized."

"With that being said, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will not be receiving any further future content or support. This means that there will be no more DLC, balance updates, or bug fixes, after our upcoming May patch. You can still expect a few more patches in the future in order to transition towards peer-to-peer matchmaking. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will still be playable and is not being delisted from store fronts. Our community team will continue to interact with our players as we continue to celebrate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with all of you who love this game just as much as we do."

There's been no date announced for when the game's upcoming May patch will arrive, though a post on the game's Reddit page from Gun Interactive puts it at arriving sometime in mid-May, which could mean that it'll go live within a few days.
