Graphics Designer Behind Shenmue HD Joins Shenmue III team
A few months ago, we brought you the latest video made by Kid Nocon, a Korean Shenmue fan who has been working on Shenmue HD for quite some time as a personal project.
His work is frankly amazing, with a painstaking attention to detail. Ryo Hazuki’s mansion was recreated almost perfectly with the Unreal Engine 4.
The good news of today is that Kid Nocon has been hired by Ys Net and will be working on Shenmue III. Once again, Yu Suzuki demonstrated to be listening carefully to the community, which had been asking for this since the game was funded.

If the above video is any indication, any worries about the graphics quality of Shenmue III should be now put to rest. On the other hand, this probably means that Kid Nocon won’t be able to work on Shenmue HD anymore; hopefully SEGA will fill that void with a proper remaster of Shenmue I & II, which fans have been asking for a very long time.
Shenmue III is still the most funded video game ever on Kickstarter by a huge margin. However, recently Ys Net has launched a slacker backer campaign through PayPal; the tally is now at $6,379,216 with almost 70K backers. Obviously, the new funds will count towards the remaining stretch goals, with the closest one being Battle System Expanded – Ragdoll Reaction at $6,5 million; this campaign will go on until December 31st, so you have plenty of time to support Shenmue III if you haven’t already.
Shenmue III is being developed for PC and PlayStation 4, with a tentative release date of December 2017.
