We all know that the Pixel Fold is relatively new, and although it might not be my favorite foldable phone to come out in recent years, it still shows that Google is committed to providing a decent experience. Now, a new revelation shows that Google has been testing a foldable phone since 2020. The phone that Google was testing was none other than the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and now the device has popped up for sale.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 can be called a spiritual precursor to the device we now know as Pixel Fold
Based on information and images obtained by Mishaal Rahman, the internally used Galaxy Z Fold 2 has some modifications done to it. We cannot really call it the Pixel Fold, but it is safe to say that the phone was used as a foundation. The device is codenamed Jumbojack and is now available for sale. Rahman did not post the link to where you can buy the device, but things do look legitimate. You can have a look at the images below:
It appears that this Galaxy Z Fold 2 or Pixel Fold prototype appears to be running Android 12L with Google apps. Even the settings menu shows that the phone's codenamed Jumbojack. Things like that are not really surprising when you consider the fact that Google and Samsung have been working closely for as long as one can remember. So it does make sense that they joined forces to make Google's foldable a reality.
From what we can tell, Google was using this Galaxy Z Fold 2 to optimize and fine-tune the software for the Pixel Fold, which debuted last year. Google's foldable managed to leave a good impression on the tech world despite the fact that it was the first foldable from the company. Google managed to check several boxes and deliver a genuinely impressive product, and honestly, I hope that Google manages to make the sequel even better and more powerful.
