Google Assistant Will Now Let Users Book Household and Local Delivery Services In The US

Google Assistant is steadily gaining functionalities to make our lives as easier as it could with voice commands. As a part of its previous additions, the Assistant had received the ability to work effortlessly with third-party apps. Now, Google is making the Assistant better with helping users in searching for local stuff. Earlier, users did not get much of Assistant's help for finding local information like nearby restaurant or utility service providers, but now they will.

Today, Google announced that from next week Android devices, Google Assistant-enabled smart speakers like Google Home, and the iPhone in major US cities will get local directory services like electrician, plumber, house cleaner and more, and other on-demand services.

In a blog post, Google states:

In the U.S., this feature will start rolling out over the coming week, so help is just around the corner. In many cities the Google Assistant will suggest providers that have been prescreened by Google and companies like HomeAdvisor and Porch so you can feel confident they're ready to take on the job. And if you’re in a city that doesn’t have any available guaranteed or screened providers, you’ll still get an answer from the Assistant with other nearby results.

Here's how it will work:

To summon your Assistant for helping you out in finding you a plumber, you will just need to say “Ok Google, find me a plumber.” After that, you will be asked to explain the problem for example clogged drain or any other. It will then ask you to confirm the address and then schedule a call from the nearest service provider or get a list of providers around your area. Similarly, you can find leads for any other household or delivery service that you require.

Limited to major cities in the US

For now, Assistant will be able to help users in the cities that are equipped with service providers like HomeAdvisor and Porch. Google Assistant won't be able to help users in the cities where there are no service providers like HomeAdvisor as it won't be able to book the service online. However, it will still be able to fetch a list of search results for nearby businesses.
