The long-rumored God of War Faye, now known as God of War Laufey, was easily the standout game not only of Sony's State of Play but also of the whole Summer Game Fest when it comes to overall impact. Marketing firm LevelUp ranked its performance across trailers, press coverage, and community engagement, finding that it far outpaced any other game shown throughout the week.
The announcement did not include any precise launch window, which worried fans. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier chimed in to say that the game isn't "years away", though he wouldn't be more specific than that. Now, renowned insider Nate the Hate revealed that developer Santa Monica Studio has been targeting the first half of 2027, though he admits that might have changed since.
Their last game, God of War Ragnarök, launched on November 9, 2022, but historically, the Californian development team has always favored the March-April release window:
- God of War - March 22, 2005
- God of War II - March 13, 2007
- God of War III - March 16, 2010
- God of War: Ascension - March 12, 2013
- God of War reboot - April 20, 2018
It stands to reason we might see a repeat this time around. This would also give Sony plenty of time to market the year's other big PlayStation exclusive, Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Since 2013's The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has released games in either late Spring or Summer:

The development team behind God of War Laufey also teased that more information will be shared in the coming months. We already know the goal for the combat system is to blend the Greek and Norse sagas, though there are still many unknowns to unravel as we get closer to launch on PlayStation 5.
