Samsung did make a few shortcuts if we take a look at the paper specifications of the Galaxy Z TriFold, such as opting to use Qualcomm’s older-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite instead of the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Furthermore, the world’s second triple-folding smartphone cannot offer a dual-screen experience like Huawei’s Mate XTs. However, we can add cameras to this list too, because a Samsung executive might have mistakenly shown off a Galaxy Z TriFold with four primary sensors instead of three, indicating that the Korean giant may have developed a more feature-rich variant that didn’t enter production.
Watered-down Galaxy Z TriFold with three primary cameras might have been put into production to target a more realistic retail price and to make more internal space for the battery
Omer Saheb, Samsung’s VP of Marketing and E-commerce for the Middle East and North African regions, published a LinkedIn post talking about the Galaxy Z TriFold. While it might have seemed like a harmful revelation of the Korean giant’s triple-folding smartphone on a professional social network, Sammobile noticed something completely odd about the device. Instead of three cameras on the commercial version of the Galaxy Z TriFold, there were four of them at the back.
Given that Samsung is no stranger to testing multiple smartphone prototypes, it is more than likely that this is one Galaxy Z TriFold variant that didn’t make it to the company’s production line. What Android Authority also noticed about the design was that the back of the handset appears plain. On the actual retail unit, Samsung states that its Galaxy Z TriFold has a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer rear panel that keeps the design thin and resistant to cracks.
If you look at the images carefully, you’ll notice that the last rear camera at the bottom has a lens structure that protrudes less than the three units on top of it, hinting that it may have been a non-essential task, which Samsung probably believed would be unnecessary to be found in commercial units. In this manner, not only does the company save up on component costs, but the device now has increased internal space to accommodate its 5,600mAh battery.
