Bethesda's communication regarding the release of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim hasn't been particularly clear these past few months, with the publisher not confirming the game until the January Switch reveal event despite it having been showing in the first trailer ever released for the console. After the game's confirmation, most assumed that the Switch release will be the same Special Edition released last year on PC and consoles, but this may not be the case.

Speaking with Polygon about a variety of topics, Bethesda's Todd Howard told the website he cannot say if the Switch release is the original one or the Special Edition.

As far as future projects, Howard is tight-lipped. He says the company's next games will please fans, but offers few specifics, other than generally praising Fallout 4 on VR, mobile game The Elder Scrolls: Legends and Skyrim coming to Nintendo Switch. On the latter, he “can’t say” whether the original Skyrim or the 2015 remaster will be released.

As The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim launches on Switch later this year, we will definitely hear more about the matter in the coming months. With one of the biggest features of the Special Edition being mod support on consoles, there's the chance that the publisher is still trying to find a way to make it work on Switch that's ok with Nintendo's policies.

Whether it's the regular edition or the remastered one, The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim on Switch promises to keep players engaged with a huge amount of content.
