EA: Nintendo Switch Expected to Sell Another 12 Million Units by the End of 2018

The Nintendo Switch is expected to have built an installed user base over 30 million by the end of this year.

That’s what EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen said during the publisher’s most recent financial earnings call with investors when talking about expectations for fiscal year 2019 (which runs through March 31, 2019). The CFO didn’t only express high confidence in Nintendo’s latest platform, but also said that he expects PS4 and Xbox One sales to remain strong.

“Turning to our expectations for fiscal 2019, we expect sales of current-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony to continue to be strong, with the installed base growing to 130 million consoles by the end of calendar 2018 from 103 million at the end of calendar 2017”, he said. Nintendo Switch is expected to have built an installed base over 30 million by the end of the calendar year. In dollar terms, we expect the PC gaming software market to be approximately flat and the mobile market to grow in the mid-teens in the calendar year.”

Last month, Nintendo reported to have sold 15 million Switch units in FY2017 (ended March 31st, 2018) which brought global total Switch sales to roughly 18 million since its launch back in March of 2017. Since Nintendo’s fiscal years also runs through March 31st, this would imply that EA expects Nintendo to sell another 12 million Switch units in about 9 months.

Back in January of this year, we reported on how Nintendo plans to shift 20 million Switch units during FY2018, which would bring total Switch sales up to 37 million by April 2019.
