If there's a franchise that truly feels like George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, it is Crusader Kings, as no other game manages to capture the importance of political scheming as much as the series by Paradox. While an official adaptation has yet to be made, fans can now enjoy taking down their enemies by stabbing them in the back in Westeros thanks to a mod for the third entry in the series that is now available in open beta.

The Crusader Kings 3: A Game of Thrones mod, which is being developed by the same team behind the Crusader Kings 2 Game of Thrones mod, currently only features Robert's Rebellion and allows players to leave their mark on such an important event for Westeros. Despite the current limited scope, which will be expanded down the line with a Western Essos map and other historical events like the Defiance of Duskendale and the Greyjoy's Rebellion, it is easy to see how this mod will expand on pretty much everything seen in the previous project from the team, as the number of cultures has been increased to 40, and the playable baronies to over 1,000. As it focuses on Robert Baratheon's ascension to the Iron Throne, the mod doesn't feature dragons, or the Others, as the development team wants to implement them in the best possible way.

Additional information on the many gameplay mechanics that power the Crusader Kings 3: A Game of Thrones mod can be found on its official subreddit. The mod can be downloaded from Nexus Mods.

Crusader Kings 3 is a definite step forward for the series, as the third entry in the grand strategy series by Paradox manages to retain all the complexity of past entries in the series while making it more accessible. The crazy amount of content and the RPG elements are just the icing on a very delicious cake, as highlighted by Nathan in his review.

Crusader Kings 3 is now available worldwide on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
