Control Ultimate Edition is arriving for Apple Silicon Macs later this year

Remedy launched Control in 2019 as a fresh take on the action-adventure genre. The Control Ultimate Edition arrived in 2020 and included the base game, the ‘Foundation’ and ‘AWE’ expansions, and other updates. Now, there is excellent news for Apple Silicon Mac users because the visually jaw-dropping game will arrive for compatible models later this year. Best of all, the AAA title will support hardware-accelerated ray tracing and MetalFX upscaling to increase performance.

No exact launch date for Control Ultimate Edition was given, and taxing visuals mean that the game may only arrive for Apple Silicon Macs

In our review, we had our fair share of positive experiences with Control as Remedy delivered a polished and visually attractive title, with a few gameplay elements making the game bland, but overall, it was a tremendous effort from the developer. For Apple Silicon Macs, the same experience is said to arrive later this year, with Remedy stating in the post below that various technologies, such as ray tracing and MetalFX, will be included in the game.

It is important to note that apart from mentioning Apple Silicon Macs and hardware-accelerated ray tracing on the M3 models, no compatibility list was mentioned for Control Ultimate Edition. While we remain optimistic that Remedy will treat M1 Mac owners well, you will probably have to reduce the visual settings quite a bit while enabling MetalFX to enjoy a fluid gameplay session.

With ray tracing enabled, Control Ultimate Edition can become ‘eye candy,’ but only if your hardware can keep pace with the title. Our own experience with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 3000 series GPU is that at higher resolutions, if you want to enable ray tracing at the highest possible settings, you need to enable DLSS, or else that framerate will tank.

The demanding attributes of Control Ultimate Edition likely mean that the AAA game will not be available for the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any other iPad model. While this is disappointing, the silver lining is that Apple’s macOS platform is finally getting the proper treatment in terms of gaming, even if titles are arriving for it several years later.
