Several projects in development at Gearbox, including Borderlands 4, have been sort of leaked via a developer's resume, as originally spotted by Reddit's Gaming, Leaks, and Rumors section.
Randel Reiss was the Studio Technical Director at Lost Boys Interactive between May and July 2022. That's just after the Gearbox had acquired the studio that had helped with the development of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
According to his resume, Reiss planned and engineered development on Borderlands 4, a Tiny Tina's Wonderlands sequel, and a new Brothers in Arms game. The resume has now been edited, replacing Borderlands 4 with 'unannounced sequel UE4' because Gearbox hasn't announced the game yet.
Still, it comes as no surprise that a new Borderlands game is in development. It's been over four years since the release of the previous installment, after all. While our Nathan Birch didn't exactly love the looter shooter, sales were instantly successful, with publisher 2K revealing that over five million copies had been sold in the first five days on the market. It was a 50% improvement over Borderlands 2 in this regard. Last we heard a few months ago, over 18 million copies of the game had been shipped globally, more than guaranteeing a sequel.
Borderlands 4 isn't the only project in development, as the original version of the resume also mentioned Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2. Wonderlands didn't make the same sales figures as Borderlands, but it still exceeded Gearbox's expectations. The spin-off game themed around a fantasy tabletop RPG only launched a year and a half ago, though, so a sequel is likely to be just at the very beginning of development.
Last but not least, Reiss's resume mentioned a Brothers in Arms game. It's been fifteen years since the third and last mainline entry in the tactical shooter franchise, but Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford admitted two years ago that a new game was being developed. Meanwhile, there's also a TV series adaptation in development with Scott Rosenbaum (The Shield, Chuck, V, Queen of the South) chosen as the showrunner and executive producer. The first season is supposed to focus on the disaster known as Exercise Tiger.
