Intel Z890 motherboards are out & it looks like ASRock is offering the fastest DDR5 memory speeds with up to 10,133 MT/s support on its Taichi OCF.
Intel Z890 Motherboards Are All Tuned For Insanely Fast DDR5 Memory Support As Blue Team Confirms DDR5-8000 As Sweet Spot, Overclocking Designs To Push Speeds Past 10,000 MT/s
Well, it's literally over 9000 now! Intel partners have showcased their overclocking & tuner-focused Z890 motherboards which feature some impressive memory support capabilities. We knew board makers were going to offer some amazing DDR5 memory support on their brand-new designs but each manufacturer has one special product in their lineup which is meant to push things to the top.
Starting with the motherboard options, ASRock's Z890 Taichi OCF seems to be leading the pack with the fastest currently listed DDR5 memory support of up to 10,133 MT/s. This marks a 2.11x speedup over the reference JEDEC speeds of 4800 MT/s and a 58.3% speedup over the native DDR5 speeds supported by Core Ultra 200S CPUs (6400 MT/s). The motherboard currently lists various 9600 MT/s speeds that have been validated using memory kits from V-Color.
Do keep in mind that the top speeds supported on these Intel Z890 motherboards are only valid for 1DPC (single-rank) DIMMs. Another thing to point out is that these top-end speeds are only applicable with the "K" series chips as the Non-K CPUs will end up around DDR5-7600-8000 MT/s speeds.
Following is how the memory support stacks up across the top OC designs so far from each vendor:
- ASRock Z890 Taichi OCF - 10133 MT/s+
- MSI MEG Z890 Unify-X - 9600 MT/s+
- Z890 AORUS Xtreme AI TOP - 9500 MT/s+
- ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 APEX - 9000 MT/s+
- Maxsun iCraft Z890 Vertex - 9000 MT/s+
Intel stated during a Q&A session that 8000 MT/s "Gear 2" will be the sweet spot for their Z890 platform but certain motherboards like the Taichi OCF can extend support to faster DIMMs. The memory DIMMs will have a fallback speed listed in the SPD which should be below the 6400 MT/s speeds, so around 5600 MT/s, for stability purposes.
Moving over to MSI, we have their MEG Unify-X which also supports crazy fast speeds of up to 9600 MT/s DDR5. Following the MSI Unify-X is the Gigabyte Z890 AORUS Xtreme AI TOP which is rated at up to 9500 MT/s speeds. The Master AI TOP also supports 9500 MT/s speeds and the company has an exclusive fan-cooler design to keep these high-clock DIMMs stable during operation. Gigabyte is also going to offer its Tachyon Z890 motherboard which should offer similar or higher (10K+ MT/s) speeds at launch.
ASUS has the ROG Maximus Z890 APEX with the fastest listed DDR5 memory speeds of over 9000 MT/s. The motherboard features an impressive design with NitroPath technology which it claims can offer a 400 MT/s improvement over standard DIMM slots and this motherboard is expected to be on the list of record-breakers like the Unify-X, Taichi OCF, and Tachyon.
Lastly, we have a surprise announcement from Maxsun in the form of its iCraft Z890 Vertex which also comes with a high-end overclocking-ready design with two DDR5 DIMM slots. This board is rated at speeds of over 9000 MT/s and is a very solid VRM solution so expect it to be a monster at overclocking too.

We really look forward to testing the DDR5 memory scaling on Intel's Core Ultra 200S platforms, especially with the new CKD DDR5 kits which are going to take the market by storm in the coming weeks so stay tuned.
