ASRock Motherboard Reportedly Kills Three Ryzen 7 9800X3D Processors In A Span Of Few Months

A user shared his experience of three Ryzen 9800X3D CPUs dying within a couple of months on an ASRock 800-series motherboard.

Redditor Files for RMA for Dead Ryzen 9800X3D on ASRock Motherboard, but Reports Multiple Failures in the Following Months

It must be very frustrating to see an expensive chip dying again and again. We have witnessed CPUs dying twice previously, but this might be the only time we have heard a CPU failing thrice. The common culprit in these instances mostly remained the motherboard, particularly from ASRock. The new case proves that the initial batch of ASRock 800-series motherboards is indeed "murderboards".

Redditor u/notmember posted on the ASRock sub-Reddit that his AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D died on the ASRock B850M PRO RS WiFi motherboard several times in a few months. The user built the system in January 2025, and the processor died in November, 2025. This was the first time his CPU died, but who knew that this would repeat in the coming months.

After an RMA, he received a second Ryzen 7 9800X3D from AMD, but that died in around two months. The user filed an RMA the third time, and this time, the processor could hardly survive a month. As shared in the screenshot, he got three Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs dead on the ASRock motherboard, which indicates that the B850M PRO RS WiFi is likely the culprit here.

System built Jan '25 and first CPU dead in Nov '25 with CPU and DRAM lights on mobo(thought I was safe).

Second CPU dead only a couple of months later with CPU and DRAM lights again.

Third CPU dead with solid green BOOT light and no display(new symptom of dead CPU) just one month later with latest 4.X BIOS versions.

So my motherboard is not only a serial CPU killer but it seems to be killing them faster each time.

Decided that 3 dead CPUs was enough and bought a new mobo. So what to do with my killer board now? What will Asrock do if I try to RMA a functioning board? Send it back to me? Has anyone ever received a refund from Asrock for their killer boards?

One would assume that his CPU may have died due to using older BIOSes, but the user says he has been updating to the latest BIOS versions regularly. The first one died on BIOS 3.50, the second died on BIOS 4.03, and the third one died on BIOS 4.07 beta, which was supposedly the one to fix CPU failures on ASRock motherboards. ASRock started shipping the AGESA 1.3.0.0a microcode with BETA BIOS 4.07, but it couldn't protect its CPU from failure.

This is why it's highly recommended to change the motherboard even if your CPU dies once on it, particularly if it's from ASRock and was bought in early 2025. Those who still own ASRock 800-series motherboards are requested to update to the latest BIOS version 4.10 to further mitigate any risks of CPU failures.
