The motherboard vendor is ready to offer improved compatibility with AMD's upcoming CPUs, but it hasn't stated which CPUs these are.

ASRock Releases New BIOS Update with AGESA 1.2.7.1 for B850 Series and B650M XD Motherboards as Well

More motherboard vendors are preparing for upcoming CPUs, and no, it's not for the Zen 6. We are still far away from seeing those processors on the shelves, and therefore, these updates are likely for upcoming Zen 5 offerings, which we will talk about soon. As spotted by @momomo_us, ASRock has finally released a stable version of AGESA BIOS 1.2.7.1, which was previously rolled out on a few models in the beta state.

ASRock is the only one to skip the AGESA 1.2.7.0 and go with a newer branch, which reportedly doesn't bring anything except improved "compatibility" with upcoming AMD CPUs. The list of motherboards includes several B850 chipset motherboards as well as two B650 models. However, these are the recently released B650M Pro X3D and its WiFi variant. ASRock hasn't rolled out the new AGESA 1.2.7.1 for either X870 or X670 motherboards yet, but may do so in the coming days, at least for the X870 series.

The BIOS version 4.03 is the one that you will find on the support pages of the listed motherboard models, and it's evident that the new BIOS was released today. As far as the "upcoming CPUs" go, we expect it to be either the recently teased Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs, such as the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, or it's also possible that these add support for Zen 5-based APUs aka Krackan Point and Strix Point, which have previously appeared in the reports. With the AGESA 1.2.7.0, these APU families reportedly become compatible with the AM5 motherboards, but none of the vendors have officially confirmed it.

It has been a few weeks since the AGESA 1.2.7.0 branch and 1.2.8.0 have begun rolling out on various models. Sometimes we see reports of pulling back of these updates, and in some reports, we see users having trouble booting their systems. Hopefully, these have become stable now.
