New ‘Designed by Apple in California’ Video is Narrated by Jony Ive, Shows of Company’s Design Lab – Check it Out

Apple surprised everyone by releasing a $299 hardbound book, celebrating 20 years of design by the company. The book, designed by Jony Ive, is dedicated to Steve Jobs and pays homage to the effort spent in designing some remarkable products. To outline this even further, Apple published a new ‘Designed by Apple in California’ video, narrated by Cupertino’s design guru Jony Ive. What’s interesting about this video is how Apple gives us a good glimpse of its design lab, the place where all of its products are born.

Check out the video below and see for yourself.

Designed by Apple in California chronicles 20 years of Apple design through 450 photographs of our products and the processes used to make them. A visual history spanning iMac to Apple Pencil, this hardcover volume is both a testament and a tribute to the meticulous processes of design, engineering, and manufacturing that are singularly Apple.

As you can see from the video, Apple’s design lab looks like an interesting place to work at, with all the usual things you’d expect from a workshop-like environment for designing products. Also, as narrated by Jony Ive, it appears as though Apple has a small design team, which is understandable, given Apple’s small portfolio of products when compared to companies like Samsung.

The amount of effort that goes into designing a certain product is extremely crucial, as everything needs to be perfect the moment a consumer holds it in their hands. The margin of error is absolutely low in a lot of cases, and in the case of Apple, almost none.

It’s a very interesting video and we highly recommend watching it whether you are a fan of Apple or not. It goes on to show how much effort a company puts into a product which we carelessly toss around on a day to day basis.
