Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max is now being tipped to be the most obese variant ever produced, not as much in terms of dimensions as weight.

A reputable Chinese tipster claims Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Max will be the heaviest iPhone ever produced

The reputable Chinese tipster, Instant Digital, has now made two major predictions about the 2026 iPhone 18 Pro Max:

  1. The 2026 apex iPhone variant will be thicker.
  2. It will weigh over 240 grams.

Do note that Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to feature a 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display, respectively, matching the display sizes found on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

Nonetheless, the apex iPhone 18 variant will be more bloated than its predecessors, and also weigh more, possibly due to a number of design choices that Apple is expected to institute in 2026, including a stainless steel vapor chamber and a new variable-aperture main camera, supported by a three-layer stacked image sensor.

Do note that the iPhone 14 Pro Max weighed 240 grams, holding the current weight record among all iPhones, but it had a stainless steel frame. Apple switched to the lighter titanium frame for the iPhone 15 and 16 variants, before settling on an aluminum frame for the iPhone 17 lineup, barring the iPhone Air, which still retains a titanium frame.

Instant Digital noted in a subsequent Weibo comment that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh around 10 grams more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which brings the upcoming apex variant's expected weight to around 243 grams. If this turns out to be true, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will officially become the heaviest iPhone ever produced.

Other expected specs for the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max:

  1. Apple is likely to eliminate the capacitive induction layer within the camera control button of next year's iPhone 18 lineup, retaining only a pressure-sensing layer.
  2. Apple is testing at least one new color option for the iPhone 18 Pro, with either brown, purple, or burgundy likely to end up as a final color option on Apple's next iPhone lineup.
  3. The iPhone 18 Pro duo is expected to sport the A20 Pro SoC, which will leverage TSMC's 2nm process node and Chip on Wafer on Substrate (CoWoS) packaging, facilitating a tighter integration between the processor, unified memory, and the neural engine.
  4. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will also use Apple's in-house C2 modem.
  5. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature a punch-hole cutout at the front and move to a transparent/translucent rear cover
  6. Apple might place Face ID's TrueDepth camera system under the display.
  7. The iPhone 18 Pro duo will sport a 48-megapixel telephoto lens.
  8. Apple will use a steel-shell battery for the first time in the iPhone 18 lineup.
  9. No color gradient between the frame and the back glass cutout.
