Beyond AirPods Pro, this technology has profound implications for the Vision Pro and the upcoming Apple Glasses, as well as the rumored AI pin.

Apple was aiming to "change the world" with its upcoming camera-equipped AirPods Pro. Yet, this supposedly revolutionary product has apparently again fallen foul of that near-constant bane of Apple's recent existence: its lagging AI capabilities.

A relatively accurate tipster has just published a single-word denouement for Apple's ambitions around the camera-equipped AirPods Pro

We first reported back in February that Apple was working on a new camera-equipped AirPods Pro. Do note that Apple received a patent back in July 2025 for leveraging cameras - akin to the Face ID's dot projector - in proximity detection and 3D depth-mapping use cases, which obviously retains tantalizing applications for the new AirPods Pro

Then, in May, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman disclosed additional details regarding the new AirPods Pro, going on to declare that the device was in its design validation stage, which is the last major step before early production kicks in.

According to Gurman, Apple's camera-equipped AirPods Pro will feed a constant stream of visual information to the new Siri, allowing Apple's revamped voice assistant to understand its surroundings. Users will be able to ask Siri about the objects in their vicinity, receive better and more personalized contextual reminders, and avail a much more detailed, step-by-step directional guidance.

To counter privacy concerns, the device's LED indicator will presumably light up whenever visual information is streamed to Siri. As far as their physical attributes are concerned, the new camera-equipped AirPods Pro apparently resemble the AirPods Pro 3, but with a larger stem to accommodate the cameras.

Now, however, the tipster Kosutami, who is better known as a collector of Apple's prototype hardware, has just dashed any budding hopes around the imminent launch of the new camera-equipped AirPods Pro with a terse "suspended" denouement.

Do note that Kosutami has a fairly accurate track record, having famously disclosed the iPhone 16 Pro's metal-enclosed battery around 10 months before its debut. Even so, the tipster had inaccurately claimed in August 2024 that the launch of the AirPods Pro 3 was imminent at the time.

Coming back, Apple had originally planned to unveil the all-new camera-equipped AirPods Pro earlier this year. However, the launch was pushed back as Apple's AI efforts remained in shambles.

With the advent of the new Siri and the revamped Visual Intelligence features, however, the camera-equipped AirPods Pro were largely believed to be back in play.

Now that Kosutami has poured cold water over those expectations, doubts are again creeping back around the proficiency of Apple's new Visual Intelligence capabilities, which are supposed to be powered by much more powerful AI models.
