Apple will announce the iPhone 16 lineup later this year with a handful of new changes, but it appears that the design of the iPhone has become quite stagnant. The company is seeking a design for the iPhone 16 that was introduced back in 2017 with the iPhone X, and it is high time the technology giant explores new categories. Yes, the iPhone 16 will be much different than the iPhone X, but the general design language will be more or less the same. Apple has yet to step into the foldable iPhone category, and we are hearing that the product will see a delay until 2027 due to technical challenges.
Apple's foldable iPhone launch delayed until early 2027 due to technical issues
According to the latest report from Alpha Biz, Apple is changing the launch time frame of its first foldable iPhone from the last quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. Apple has yet again delayed the foldable iPhone while companies like Samsung have reached the fifth upgrade cycle. Apple appears to be waiting for the technology to advance further so as to stay away from any critical factors. For instance, the crease on a foldable is one of the major concerns for a company, and Apple's rendition could have little to no signs of it.
The technical issues revolving around the foldable iPhone's launch stretch to acquiring essential components, including the foldable displays that are tailored to its standards. It was previously coined that the company would launch two variants of its foldable iPhone, probably similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold. Samsung Securities have suggested that Apple's foldable iPhone could feature a 6-inch external display and an 8-inch internal display, a product that resembles the Galaxy Z Fold lineup. However, details on the display size are scarce as different sources are pointing to different screen sizes.

One thing to note here is that the company is not shy of letting go of rumored products for good. For example, Apple ditched its highly anticipated multi-device wireless charger due to technical issues. More recently, Apple dropped its Apple Car project altogether due to various reasons, despite spending billions of dollars on research and development. Henceforth, be sure to take the news with a grain of salt as there always rests uncertainty that if the product is not leveled with the company's expectations, it will fail to see daylight.
Other than the display, the hinge is also a crucial part of the foldable iPhone, and it takes a while before the technology is ready to be in the hands of the general public. We have previously seen Samsung's implementation where dust particles would get inside the display through the hinge. For now, Apple's foldable iPhone is slated to be delayed until early 2027 due to technical issues, and we will keep you updated with the latest as soon as further details are available.
