Apple's WWDC 2024 event is well underway, and the company has a lot to show today. After visionOS 2, the company's OS update for the Vision Pro, Apple has finally announced iOS 18 and iPadOS with a handful of new and front-facing features that will transform how we use the iPhone and the iPad.
The highlight of Apple's event was the AI, and we could see how the company is setting up the technology for all platforms. iOS 18 comes with a boatload of generative AI features for the iPhone, with Siri getting the most attention and stock apps integrated with the technology on a deeper level.
Apple announces iOS 18 with a handful of changes, redesigned Control Center, More
iOS 18 will feature more customization options on the Home Screen with the ability to place apps anywhere on the Home Screen. You also have the option to change the color of the app icons with a darker-tinted one dedicated specifically to system-wide Dark Mode. The platform will also suggest tint colors for the app icons based on the color of your wallpaper and the light or dark theme.
Besides this, the platform also comes with a new, completely redesigned Control Center, which has looked more or less the same since its debut. However, with the latest redesign, users have the option to add pages to the Control Center. There are four pages that you can add and swipe up and down across for different types of controls. For instance, users can set music controls, basic controls, and more.
Apple has also added the option for third-party developers to add their own toggles to the Control Center. The Lock Screen shortcuts can also be customized as per user preference, allowing users to place the most important features on top for easier access.
The Cupertino giant is also offering a brand new system to protect your apps from unauthorized users, putting another layer of security over apps with Face ID. While apps can now be protected with Face ID, the company has also introduced a feature that lets users hide specific apps.
As rumors have previously suggested, Apple is also enhancing the Messages app with new Reactions and a handful of text styles, including Bold, Strikethrough, and more. The Messages app is also gaining support for RCS, which Google has been demanding for a while, and Apple has finally delivered. This will allow for better and enhanced communication with Android users. Lastly, the Messages app will also allow iPhone 14 and newer models to send text messages with emojis.
Apple has also redesigned the Photos app with a photo grid for better content organization. There is a time stamp at the bottom that allows users to see the timeline of the photos. You can also browse photos by topics such as trips, memories, and more. The app will display featured photos and videos in the form of a collage. Upon first look, the entire experience is pretty similar to the Google Photos app.
Apple has also announced additional features for the platform, which are powered by AI, which will be covered in a dedicated post. The WWDC 2024 event is underway, with Apple announcing new features for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. We will be covering the event in detail, so be sure to stick around.
