A previous specifications prediction stated that the A18 Pro would feature a 6-core GPU, meaning that there would potentially be no difference between the A17 Pro as far as core counts go. On paper, this would translate into negligible performance gains for the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, but there might be a silver lining in all of this, according to a YouTuber’s latest speculation, which states that Apple could increase the die sizes of both the A18 and A18 Pro to incorporate additional upgrades.

Apple may add additional performance and efficiency cores to the A18 Pro while disabling some on the A18

Technology YouTuber Vadim Yuryev, who runs the channel Max Tech, speculated that a bigger die size for the A18 and A18 Pro would be advantageous. He posted on X stating that this change would bring several advantages, from a bigger cache to an improved Neutral Engine, an upgrade that has also been reported previously. However, the content creator pointed out that Apple could add performance and efficiency cores to the ‘Pro’ SoC.

It is important to note that the analyst who earlier spoke about the chipset’s specifications did not mention the CPU configuration. On this occasion, Vadim Yuryev believes that the A18 Pro will be equipped with an additional performance core and two efficiency cores, but his prediction is based on an earlier benchmark leak, where the SoC obtained up to a 28 percent performance lead over the A17 Pro.

For the regular A18, Apple might disable one performance and one GPU core, though our own belief is that the latter could just be a renamed version of the A17 Pro. It is important to note that this is just mere speculation on the YouTuber’s part, and the specifications of the A18 and A18 Pro have yet to be completely divulged. However, it is still an interesting take on things and helps build discussions.

As for our own predictions, Apple could increase the CPU core count on the A18 and A18 Pro if it increases the die size, otherwise, it will be unsurprising if the technology giant retains a 6-core cluster that it has employed for previous SoC launches.
