Android is Apparently Rebranding Nearby Share to Quick Share

It appears that Google has decided to rebrand Android's famous Nearby Share and is soon going to start calling it Quick Share, which makes total sense until you realize that Samsung also uses the same name for its quick sharing service, which leads one to think about whether the companies are merging the service.

It appears that Samsung and Google are teaming up once again, and this time to rebrand Nearby Share to Quick Share

Nearby Share works a lot like AirDrop, but on Android, the feature is now widely available to almost all devices running Google services in one way or another and can easily transfer files. The service has made my life easier whenever I have to transfer files from one device to another, but now it appears that it will soon be called Quick Share.

The change was spotted by Kamila Wojciechowska, and you can have a look at the screenshot below. It seems that the change will start rolling out to a wider audience pretty soon. I tried it on my OnePlus 10 Pro and have not seen anything like it.

Now, honestly, I am not really affected by the whole change, whether it is Nearby Share or Quick Share. As long as the functionality remains the same and gets even better with time, I have no issues whatsoever that might otherwise come in the way. For whatever it is worth, the change is almost entirely visual at the moment, which means that you don't have to worry about losing any functionality of this service.

The more interesting part here is that Google has decided to go for Quick Share as the name that Samsung has used for a long, long time. Sadly, at the time, we are not sure if both services are merging, but if that is the case, then it would make a lot of sense, to be honest. Whatever the case might be, we will keep you posted as this story develops and we learn more about what Google is planning. Until then, let us know what you think about this rebrand.
