AMD Brings Ryzen 7 7700X3D For The Gaming Masses, Priced at An Exceptional $329 With 3D V-Cache (8 p.m. ET, May 31)

AMD is preparing a new 3D V-Cache CPU for the AM5 socket, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, which should feature the same 8-core & 96 MB cache at a lower price point.

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU Brings 8-Core 3D V-Cache To Even More AM5 Gamers

Currently, AMD offers three 8-Core Ryzen 3D V-Cache CPUs: the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. But that is about to change as the company is working on a brand new processor.

As per chi11eddog, the new CPU will be called the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D, and as per the naming, the chip should fall below the 7800X3D. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still regarded as one of the strongest CPUs for gaming based on its price, which usually hovers around $400. The new CPU is going to offer higher value.

In terms of specifications, the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU will feature 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 4 core architecture. The chip should carry the standard 32 MB L3 cache on the CCDs and a 64MB L3 cache stacked on top of the CCD for a total of 96 MB L3 cache. The CPU will operate at a base clock of 4.0 GHz and a boost clock of 4.5 GHz.

Ryzen 7 7700X3D vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D:

  • Same 8-Cores based on Zen 4 CPUs
  • 4.0 GHz vs 4.2 GHz Base Clock
  • 4.5 GHz vs 5.0 GHz Boost Clock
  • Same 96 MB L3 Cache
  • TDP Yet To Be Determined (Should be 105-120W)
  • $299-$349 US Expected Price

No details regarding the TDP are mentioned, but we expect the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D to be similarly spec'd as the 7800X3D, around 105-120W. The clock speeds are 200 MHz lower for the base and 500 MHz lower for the boost clock, so we expect a nominal 5% performance hit versus the 7800X3D, but the 3D V-Cache should still maintain good gaming capabilities.

Price-wise, the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU should retail at a lower price than the 7800X3D. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is currently available for $365 at Newegg, $353 at Amazon, and also hit its lowest price yet at $324, while the Ryzen 7 9800X3D sells for around 440-450 USD. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D also hit its lowest price yet.

We expect the 7700X3D to be priced between $299-$349, which should make it an interesting gaming choice against the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus. The Intel option will be faster in multi-threading, but for pure gaming, the 7700X3D should easily edge it out. You can check out our 7800X3D vs 9800X3D vs 9850X3D benchmarks here.
