Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced today that PlayStation 4 sales have surpassed 50 million units worldwide.

As of December 6, more than 50 million PS4 units have been sold-through to consumers, although Sony mentions that the number of retail sales to consumers have been estimated. These figures include Black Friday sales, which were the best in PlayStation history. Also included are PS4 Pro sales, Sony’s enhanced PS4 console which launched last month.

“We’re truly delighted that the PS4 community continues to flourish since launch three years ago.” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “With tremendous support from our fans and partners across the globe, this year we were able to deliver an unprecedented lineup of hardware such as the new slimmer PS4, PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR. We will continue to provide the best gaming experiences available through our ground-breaking software lineup and network services, as we focus on accelerating our business and expanding the PS4 ecosystem.”

According to Sony, PS4 software sales also remain strong, with more than 369.6 million copies sold in retail stores globally and through digital downloads on the PS Store as of December 4, 2016.

Back in May of this year, Sony reported that PS4 sales topped 40 million as of May 22 and that it expects that sell another 20 million PS4 units before March 31, 2017.

“We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services,” House said in a press release back in May.
