[Update 2] Following Pachter’s comment in which he accused the Daily Star of “irresponsible” reporting, the British tabloid decided to release the actual audio recording from the interview. It turns out that Pachter was the one “irresponsible” here. Down below you’ll find a transcript from the audio recording.

Daily Star: “For gamers that are more traditionally PC who have seen the announcement (PS4 Pro) may they be more inclined to maybe go for that?

Michael Pachter: PC gamers are like racists where they only like their own kind and they have no interest in venturing out and mixing with other races. PC Gamers are arrogant twits who are convinced at what they do is better than anyone else could possibly do.”

[Update 1] In a post on the NEOGAF forums, Pachter has denied that he used the word “twit”. He did use the term “racist” however. According to Pachter, the reporting from the Daily Star was “irresponsible”.

I’ve never used the word “twit” in my life.

I absolutely used the term racist, but only upon being questioned repeatedly about what I meant when I called PC gamers insular.

The reporting here was irresponsible. I’ve done 6000 interviews over the last 15 years (we’re required to log them), and somehow, have been able to hide my bigoted side until today . . . I’m not sure what the “reporter” was trying to do, other than stir the pot. Yes, I said that the PS4 Pro probably wouldn’t appeal to PC gamers, The rest is just silly.

[ Original story ] Everybody’s favorite industry analyst, Michael Pachter, shared his opinion on PC gamers recently, and as usual, he didn’t hold back.

The Wedbush Security analyst recently talked to British newspaper The Daily Star about the recent PS4 Pro reveal, and why PC gamers won’t feel the need to purchase Sony’s enhanced PS4 console.

The PS4 Pro was revealed earlier this month during Sony’s PlayStation Meeting, and according to the company’s CEO, Andrew House, the release of the console might be a way for Sony to prevent gamers from migrating to PC. A question that lingers – will the PS4 Pro be a good alternative for PC gamers with its appealing price tag and specs?

According to Pachter, this clearly won’t be the case as PC gamers won’t be “tempted” to buy Sony’s upgraded PS4 console anyway:

I think PC Gamers are like racists; they only like their own kind, and they have no interest in venturing out and mixing with other races.

That’s quite a statement to make, but Pachter didn’t stop there:

PC gamers are arrogant twits who are convinced what they do is better than what anybody else can possibly do.

However if you were an Xbox owner and you’ve always wondered what it’s like to be a PlayStation owner, this is a great opportunity.

And I think if you’re not a [next-gen] console owner at all – which would include a subset of PC users – this is the one you would buy. This [PS4 Pro] is the obvious choice.

Clearly, this is just Pachter’s opinion on the matter, but he surely could have chosen his words more carefully. You probably don’t agree with him on this matter, but we’re interested in what you have to say on this matter. Hit the comments below.
