Mi 9 Pro 5G Is Here; Offers an Efficient Snapdragon 855+, 30W Fast Wireless Charging, Triple Camera Setup & More
Alongside the mind-blowing Mi MIX Alpha, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G was also introduced, offering customers a more affordable way to obtain an Android flagship experience. Let us take a look at all the things that make the Mi 9 Pro 5G special, and how it manages to compete against other devices in terms of both price and performance.
Xiaomi’s Mi 9 Pro 5G Offers a Regular 2019 Smartphone Design With a Teardrop Notch and Chin Bezel
The Mi 9 Pro 5G sports a decent 6.39-inch OLED screen with an in-screen fingerprint reader. Also, as the name suggests, the latest device supports 5G connectivity and provides full coverage of the mainstream 5G bands used in Mainland China. Peak downloads speeds of 2.02Gbps can be achieved, making the 5G networking performance up to 10 times faster than the 4G standard. Additionally, the Mi 9 Pro 5G sports a 7-antenna design, so it is able to provide the best possible reception and performance, irrespective of what orientation you’re holding the handset in.
Vapor Chamber Cooling Helps to Keep the Temperature in Check
As for the performance bits of the Mi 9 Pro 5G, it offers a more efficient Snapdragon 855 Plus. We say efficient because the cooling solution employed by Xiaomi in its latest smartphone is a vapor chamber.
“Mi 9 Pro 5G also sports the industry’s most efficient vapor chamber (VC), along with five layers of graphite sheet, high thermal conductivity copper foil, and thermal adhesive, together forming a powerful three-dimensional cooling system. The L-shaped VC has a heat dissipation area up to 1,127mm2, which accommodates faster and more efficient heat transfer compared to graphite and copper tubes.”
Thanks to the latest cooling solution, the chipset’s temperature can go down by as much as 10.2 °C, according to Xiaomi. The Mi 9 Pro 5G also supports 40W wired fast-charging that can charge its 4000mAh battery from 0-100 percent in just 48 minutes. While a lot of premium devices support fast wired charging, the Mi 9 Pro 5G also offers 30W fast wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. Xiaomi has also acquired a TÜV Rheinland Safe Fast-Charge System 3.0 certification, which ensures that wireless charging tests were done in a responsible manner and that no harm would come to the user or have deleterious effects on the smartphone itself due to the heat generated.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G sports a triple rear camera setup at the back. The primary sensor is a 48MP unit from Sony, followed by a 16MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP telephoto optics solution. For all of this, Xiaomi will most likely be using AI driven by software to help with a bit of color correction as well as exposure balancing. Though the phone is available in several memory configurations, the top-tier model offers 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It’s not confirmed if the internal memory supports the UFS 3.0 standard, but we’ll update this little bit for our readers when we have access to more info.
