iOS 18.1 beta 4 has been released and is packed up with some major upgrades especially when it comes to the camera functionality. While the spatial photo option was announced for the iPhone 16 lineup, it is now being extended to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Although the previous Pro models did get support for spatial videos last year, with the latest roll-out, a dedicated Spatial functionality is now added that includes photos as well.

The latest iOS 18.1 developer beta now brings support for spatial photos for the iPhone Pro models

Spatial photos and videos are an advanced functionality that adds more depth and life-like elements to the media and marks a significant improvement in camera options. While it was previously introduced to the new iPhone 16 series, with the iOS 18.1 release, we see it now being made available for the iPhone 15 Pro models.

As reported by 9to5Mac, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users would see a new Spatial section available in the camera app that will make it convenient for them to make the switches and offer a seamless experience with the new feature.

Apple suggests that for users to view the media in its optimal form they should use the landscape mode, and ensure stability while taking photos. A spatial photo is said to take up to 5MB of space, while a minute-long spatial video is about 130 MB. Users can view the images and videos using the Apple Vision Pro headset and indulge in an immersive 3D experience.

The visionOS 2 update also came out this week, which would bring more convenience to users as they would be able to convert any image in their library into a spatial photo. iOS 18.1 is currently in the beta phase and available for developers, but it is said to be released this year in October with the Apple Intelligence features that have been long awaited.

With the current update, the iPhone 15 Pro series camera functionality will significantly improve, and users might find few reasons to switch to the new iPhone 16 models and might end up not upgrading this year.
