iOS 19 might make it easier for transferring eSIM from iPhone to Android

When it comes to transferring an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android phone, the process is arduous as it requires you first to contact your carrier for deactivation of the old eSIM, and then a new one is issued. While both companies have been actively working on improving interoperability between the two platforms and making it easier to transition or transfer data, this has remained a missing point for users. It seems like the upcoming iOS 19 update would resolve this issue and make it seamless to switch between iOS and Android platforms.

iOS 19 may take away a major pain point for users by streamlining the process of transferring an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android

Users already dread phone switching due to the complications involved in transferring between platforms. This major pain point might finally be addressed in the next version of iOS, as we have hints regarding iOS 19 making it easier to transfer an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android phone directly. Android Authority is said to have stumbled upon interesting details in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 while exploring the Google SIM Manager app.

This app is used when transferring eSIM between Android phones, but this time around, a code suggests that Apple's upcoming iOS 19 might simplify the process of wirelessly transferring an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android phone. A new setting called Transfer to Android might be added under the option to transfer and reset for the iPhone. It could possibly work with a QR code on the Android device to initiate the transfer.

If the process does not go through with scanning a QR code, there seems to be another option available, which involves a session ID and a Passcode that the iPhone would generate. If this clue holds some truth, it would be a big step in making both platforms more compatible and making it easier to do switches directly without the need to contact any carriers.

More details could emerge at the WWDC about this new transfer feature meant to bridge the gap between the platforms, but who knows, Apple might even make this change subtly without a big announcement. With Apple initiating in this regard, Google might also take a step forward in making the process seamless, which could help remove a huge hassle for users and a huge problem with eSIM transfers.
