It appears that the Oppo Find X7 series is not the only device in the market getting the latest 5.5G network upgrade. More companies have decided to throw their hats in the ring, starting with Vivo commenting on how the Vivo X Fold 3 and the Vivo X100 series will soon be getting 5.5G support. This support will be made possible via an OTA update. In addition to Vivo, Xiaomi 14 Ultra is also getting the latest speed upgrade, which definitely is something good.

The 5.5G network is slowly but surely expanding, and I cannot wait for international coverage to begin

In addition to devices from Vivo and Xiaomi, the iQOO 12 series and iQOO Neo 9 series will also get the 5.5G network upgrade, and it is possibly going to happen via an OTA update for these devices. So, that covers plenty of Chinese devices that will get the update. There is no word on when the international devices will get the 5.5G speed bump, but considering how existing devices in China are already getting the update, this might become a reality in other regions as well.

China Mobile is still trying to expand 5.5G. At the moment, the coverage is very limited, but based on the information we have received, it will be available in over 300 cities by the end of this year. By that time, it will actually deliver better performance and better coverage, and we will also see more devices finally supporting the latest standard.

The mobile telecommunication company has talked about how 5.5G will be available in big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou by the end of this year. It is also worth noting that China Mobile is the only carrier at the time of writing that supports the latest upgrade. While it is safe to expect other carriers to join, it is going to take some time before that happens.

Although it might not seem like a lot in terms of improvements, 5.5G does provide better throughput for both downloads and uploads. It is a stepping stone towards 6G, but this network is here until that becomes a reality. Think of it as LTE to 4G, but it still delivers an excellent performance boost.
