User Pays $3200 For RTX 5090, Receives $2 Detergent Powder Inside The Box; Amazon Refuses Refund

A damaged package label showing '1.56 kg' is next to an open box containing a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card package and a bag of snacks.

This is one of the biggest scams we have heard in 2026, but what's worse is Amazon's inaction and its refusal to acknowledge it.

Redditor Gets Scammed As He Receives Detergent Powder Instead of GIGABYTE RTX 5090 From Amazon; Despite Video Footage, Amazon Reportedly Denied the Refund

As much as we see users getting rewarded with an extra piece of hardware 'mistakenly', we see an equal number of users getting scammed from the same platforms. While some users are lucky enough to secure dozens of free SSDs and free GPUs, some don't even get the refunds for their defective products.

On delivery day (March 14), we set up a camera for an unboxing video. While the outer Amazon shipping bag was sealed, the internal GPU box was a disaster: physical damage, sliced manufacturer seals covered in clear tape, and a fake aftermarket barcode ("X002IVLPDX") slapped on the front. Inside was a 1kg packet of Ghadi detergent powder.

I've spent the last 8 days being strung along by Amazon’s Executive Customer Relations team (Ganesh [I guess he was leading the investigation], Bharath, Tayyabunnissa, and Soneksh).

Timeline of Broken Promises: I was initially told the issue would be resolved by March 18th/19th. They then arbitrarily pushed the resolution date to March 25th, claiming a "thorough" investigation by multiple "specialized teams" was needed.

Today, the mental stress became too much. I called them, explained that I hadn't received a single meaningful update, and stated that I would be moving to Consumer Court.

Exactly 15 minutes after that call, I received an email from "Ganesh" stating that based on their "comprehensive review," the correct product was shipped and they would not process a refund. It is clear they did not watch the evidence; they simply closed the ticket in retaliation for my legal threat.

In some cases, the customers are shipped something else in the box, and that mostly happens with the GPUs. RTX 5090 scams are pretty common, and this one is one of the worst we have seen this year. As reported by u/void_SW, he and his friend ordered a GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5090 WindForce OC 32G for 2,99,995 INR, which is equivalent to nearly US$3260.

However, when he received the package, he found something else inside it. Fortunately, he recorded the unboxing process, but it turned out to be useless. The user reportedly found a 1 Kg Ghadi detergent powder inside the GPU box. This is a $2 detergent powder that was placed in the GPU box, which weighed just 1.56 Kg. As the GPU weighs much higher (nearly 3 Kgs), the scam was apparent. However, Amazon refused to provide any assistance.

The user posted the pics of the package, revealing the details on the label, which clearly show that the box couldn't have the GPU to begin with. As per labels, the GPU was sold by "FAB World Point", but the invoice bills were named under "MOHD KHALID". The invoice shows 0% iGST, which clearly shows something is fishy, as selling computer hardware legally requires 18% iGST. Surprisingly, he wasn't alone in getting scammed by the same seller. Someone also got the same 1 Kg Ghadi detergent powder a few days before the GPU box arrived at this user.
