Unreal Engine 5 promises to bring visuals in PC and console games to new heights, but as of now, only a handful of games are powered by the new version of the engine by Epic, so players aren't getting too many chances to experience these beautiful visuals themselves.

While console players are limited in what they can experience on their gaming machines, the same cannot be said of PC, as many developers have released Unreal Engine 5 demos that provide looks at what the future holds for gaming. This is the case of the impressive The Old West: Northwood demo, which comes with some visual and audio features that are quite interesting, such as water ripples with character interactions, dynamic wind depending on the weather conditions, accumulation of snow and dust on clothing and buildings, different footsteps sounds depending on the surface and more. The demo can be downloaded from here, while a couple of videos showcasing it can be found below.

As already mentioned, not many are the games powered by Unreal Engine 5 currently available for PC and consoles. Among the latest is Layers of Fear, a remake of the entire series by Bloober Team, which features some impressive visuals that make it one of the best-looking horror games of all time, as I highlighted in my review.

They say an artist's work is never truly done, but with Layers of Fear, Bloober Team and Anshar Studios have completed the Master Opus started back in 2016. With superb UE5 powered visuals, improved writing and some new gameplay mechanics, these journeys into the darkest recesses of the human mind have never been so immersive, although some issues prevent Layers of Fear from being an absolute masterpiece.
