Work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 is continuing, but it seems it's nowhere near completion after almost 20 years of development, judging from a recent happening.

A few hours ago, Ubisoft posted a new job listing for a technical sound designer who will specifically work at Ubisoft Montpellier on Beyond Good and Evil 2.

"Under the supervision of the Audio Director at the Montpellier studio, you will provide technical solutions for integrating and implementing audio systems to ensure that the audio assets created by the team work as intended, in line with the Audio Director’s vision," the job listing reads. The selected individual may also work on every aspect of the game's audio across sound, music, voice, and all components of a game animation, interface, weapons, and vehicles.

While it's good to learn that work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 is continuing, it is definitely concerning that Ubisoft is still hiring for a project that has been in the works in some form since 2008 when the game received its first public tease.

The long development time has been troubled, to say the least, and departures of key figures within Ubisoft Montpellier had a massive impact on one of the project Ubisoft defined as AAAA games, such as Managing Director Michel Ancel leaving Ubisoft in 2020 and retiring from the video games industry altogether, Managing Director Guillame Carmona leaving the company in 2023, and the sudden passing of Creative Director Emile Morel in 2023. Despite all the uncertainty, the project hasn't been canceled, and a new Creative Director, Fawzi Mesmar, was appointed only last year.

Although it is taking so long for Beyond Good and Evil 2 to release, the series received a new release last year with Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. The new version of the game has been developed by Virtuos Games under the supervision of Ubisoft Montpellier and features a slew of enhancements, including support for up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, a new Speedrun Mode and more.
