The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) can help make America great by working with President Trump, believes Caixin Media's, Xie Jinhe. Xie made the comments in a Facebook post quoted by several Taiwanese news media outlets. In it, he commented on the stock market's performance after tariffs were announced and on the President's belief that the Federal Reserve must lower interest rates. His post centered on the trade tensions between the US and China, with Xie pointing out that TSMC will play a key role in making America great again under the President's vision.

TSMC & Taiwan Supply Chains Are Important In Letting President Trump Make America Great Again, Says Media Mogul

TSMC's chip manufacturing technologies and its ability to produce in volume have meant that it is right at the center of the global semiconductor supply chain. All of the world's major technology companies rely on the firm's chip manufacturing processes, and Trump has praised TSMC in his comments.

Briefing the press after he and TSMC CEO Dr. C. C. Wei announced an additional $100 billion in US investments last month, Trump called TSMC the "biggest" chip manufacturer in the world and added that Taiwan has a "monopoly" in the semiconductor industry and TSMC is "the most powerful company in the world."

Trump's praise followed revelations by him earlier this month that he had threatened TSMC with a 100% tax if it did not build chip manufacturing plants in America. TSMC's latest manufacturing technology as of early 2025 is the 3-nanometer process and all chips with this technology are manufactured in the firm's Taiwanese facilities.

In his Facebook post, Caixin Group's Xie Jinhe commented on the President's tariffs, their implications on the US stock market and the role that Taiwan can play in Trump's vision of making America great again. He remarked that the trade deficit helps US government bonds, and added that the tariff pause can enable the President to review relations with countries and ensure that China does not gain any allies in its trade war with the US.

Consequently, he believes that Taiwan can play a key role in Trump's plan to expand US manufacturing. TSMC's current manufacturing plant in Arizona has seen industry watchers comment that the firm will face higher costs due to the lack of a local supply chain. Additionally, costs for technologies such as packaging are also expected to be higher since TSMC has to ship the chip to Taiwan for packaging and ship them back to the US.

Xie believes that TSMC "is an important helper in making America great again [machine translated]" and adds that "Taiwanese companies’ activities in the supply chain are even more helpful in helping manufacturing return to the United States [machine translated]." A semiconductor supply chain consists of numerous firms ranging from those that provide silicon wafers to print billions of circuits to chemical companies for materials to ensure product purity throughout the manufacturing process.

Xie's previous statements on Facebook have seen him warn that growing trade differences between the US and China could spell the end of globalization and split the world into technological polar ends.
