The Sims 5: Project Rene, a highly anticipated title amongst the franchise's fans, is expected to feature multiplayer mechanics inspired by the popular Animal Crossing.

The next iteration within The Sims lineup of releases is arguably going to be the most significant yet, mainly since it has been mentioned several times that the devs plan to make it a "multiplayer" platform. While details regarding the title are slim, the franchise's VP Lyndsay Pearson has disclosed "tidbits" about the upcoming title at the One More Life podcast, revealing the concept of how they want Project Rene to be framed:

We definitely want to introduce multiplayer. Not multiplayer in the big, scary 'jump into a world full of strangers' kind of way, but literally, how do you and your friends want to play together?

How do we figure out how to make a little bit of that chaos, a little bit of that fun, and a little bit of that positivity come together in a way that feels 'Simsy? Of course, the multiplayer landscape has changed a lot over the years, with some games offering a lot more of a casual experience; Animal Crossing in particular is an example that comes up for the team behind Project Rene.

For a title like The Sims, making a multiplayer title interactive amongst gamers is a vital goal for the company. They surely don't want to rush the process and provide a platform that allows humans to play with each other in a "cooperative" and friendly environment. Lyndsay sees the whole idea behind "Animal Crossing" resembling what they want to make out of The Sims 5, and we could very much see a similar mechanism in it, which is indeed exciting for everyone.

There isn't a word upon when The Sims 5 will be released, and even the expected in-game content hasn't surfaced that much. However, based on today's development, The Sims 5 will indeed deviate from the previous titles, providing a multiplayer experience like no other.
