A massive The Last of Us Part I patch went live on PC yesterday, introducing CPU and GPU optimizations and a variety of other improvements and fixes. Some new comparison videos shared online highlight how much the PC version of the first entry in the series was improved with the 1.0.4 patch.

The first comparison video, shared by MXBenchmarkPC, highlights how the optimization improvements are there but are not as big as expected. VRAM usage is also slightly lower than before, leading to minor performance improvements in certain scenarios.

The second The Last of Us Part I comparison video, shared by KyoKat PC Gameplay | Benchmark, highlights not only the slightly faster shader building but improved texture quality at medium settings. The low texture quality for medium and low settings was among one of the port's biggest issues, so it's nice to see how texture quality was indeed improved with the latest patch.

Since the launch of The Last of Us Part I on PC last month, Naughty Dog has been hard at work to fix the many issues found in what is probably the most disappointing PlayStation-to-PC port to date. It's a shame the game launched in this state and is still far from being completely fixed, as it is an excellent game that all fans of the survival horror genre should play. You can learn more about the game's much better running PlayStation 5 version by checking out Kai's review.

The Last of Us Part I is a testament to how timeless this Cormac McCarthy-inspired tale is. Fully remade for Sony’s latest console generation, if this is the first chance a player has to experience the post-outbreak tale, it’s without a doubt the best version to play. Both visual and mechanical enhancements bring this title to life as no other Naughty Dog game has done before. However, the omission of the multiplayer component is lamented by fans of the original that cannot be overlooked for keeping The Last of Us Part I from being a perfect gaming experience.

The Last of Us Part I is now available on PC and PlayStation 5 worldwide. We will keep you updated on any upcoming patch as soon as possible, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
