Teamgroup had a lot to show at its Computex booth including new Gen5 SSDs, T-Force DDR5 memory kits & new cooling solutions.
Teamgroup Goes XTREEM With New Z5 Gen5 SSDs & Up To DDR5-8266 Memory Kits
Teamgroup had three main components that received new additions and include Gen5 SSDs, SSD cooling solutions, and memory modules. Starting with the memory modules, Teamgroup revealed its brand new T-Force Xtreem DDR5 memory modules for desktop PCs which come in the Narvik black design, ranging from 6400 to 8266 MT/s speeds with 16 GB and up to 96 GB capacities (24 GB & 48 GB modules), all in a newly designed heatspreader which features an updated design in a 48.8 x 134.5 x 8.2mm body.
The Teamgroup T-Force Xtreem DDR5 memory kits will be available in both ARGB and non-RGB variants. The ARGB variant will have a mirror frame that displays the RGB diffuser while the non-RGB variant will get a T-Force logo.
Moving onward, the company also announced its brand new Gen5 SSDs & it looks like Teamgroup will have a slight branding change. Moving onward, the Gen5 and Gen4 SSDs will use the new Z5 & Z4 branding which makes things less complicated than the A440/Z440/Pro, etc naming scheme that had become really hard for consumers to get a grasp of. The lineup will be further divided into tiers such as the ones used by Intel to differentiate between the price and performance such as Core i7, i5, and i3. This isn't final yet but we'll know when the first products start rolling out.
Talking about products, the company was showing off two drives, a Gen5 Z5 series with up to 14 GB/s Read & 11 GB/s Write speeds (1 / 2 / 4 TB capacities) and another variant with up to 12 GB/s Read and 10 GB/s Write speeds (1 / 2 / 4 TB capacities). The company also had a few Z4 SSDs that are now rated at up to 7400 MB/s speeds and will be launching relatively soon for the mainstream gaming audience.
Big performance also demands big cooling and Teamgroup has highlighted that while Gen5 can hit some incredible speeds of up to 12.4 GB/s in its labs and peak out around 15.75 GB/s (Max), temps will be a huge problem. High-End drives can easily hit over 100C if the cooling isn't adequate and if you aren't running proper cooling, you'll end up in some severe bottlenecks.
For example, the S0 to S1 drop will occur at over 81C which drops performance down to 5 GB/s or half of the Z540's rated 10 GB/s speeds. The S2 will lead to a drop of 2 GB/s at over 83C and the protection features kick in via the firmware at above 115C which drops the performance down to just 100 MB/s. For anything above 120C, it's a hard shutdown.
For this reason, Teamgroup has developed a diverse portfolio of Gen5 SSD coolers which include the new Siren GD120S, a standalone SSD cooler that is similar to the Siren DUO360 but doesn't comes with the CPU cooler. There are also three new coolers, the Dark Air Flow Series I, II, and III. These coolers feature passive and active heatsink solutions that can sustain close to 50C temps at sustained 12 GB/s speeds. The AIO cooling helps push the temps down in the sub-50C range so if you want, there's definitely a bonus of doing that.
Of course, AIO SSD cooling is a super niche market so the number of units produced for such a product won't be that huge and the pricing will be slightly on the higher-end side. With that said, expect more information on availability and pricing in the coming months.
