Styx: Shards of Darkness Delayed to Q1 2017; Latest Trailer Shows off Stealthy Action
In a press release today Cyanide Studios announced that the release Styx: Shards of Darkness has been pushed back to early Q1. In the meantime, check out this 8 minute video walkthrough of one of Styx’s new missions.
Patrick Pligersdorffer, CEO of Cyanide Studio, explains the reason for the delay for Styx: Shards of Darkness:
With this new episode of Styx we updated our engine from Unreal 3 to Unreal 4. This update has brought so much to the Styx series, from graphical enhancements to new gameplay mechanics and features. The engine transition has required some time for our team to adapt to. We’re dedicated to providing the best stealth experience possible for players, so in agreement with our publisher Focus, we are delaying the game until the first quarter of 2017. Styx: Shards of Darkness comes out early 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Those who pre-ordering will get access to the Akenash set, donning the outfit and dagger of Styx’s first adventure.
The video walkthrough has our nimble thief infiltrating the Port of Korrangar using various traps, stealth other various tools of distraction and destruction. Styx’s this time around is to retrieve an Ambassador’s stolen scepter by a wicked shape-shifting elf during a diplomatic summit.
Shards of Darkness will include new crafting options that enable new abilities for Styx. One such ability has Styx tossing a cocoon to a location that lets him teleport into a clone of himself once it hatches. The updated leveling system allows Styx to upgrade his abilities such as turning invisible for a short time or unlocking lethal moves like an aerial assassination or the ability to kill someone from inside a barrel.
Developer Cyanide Studios is giving players the option to choose between many more paths than it was possible in Styx: Master of Darkness, the previous game in the series. Originally set for a December release date, Styx: Shards of Darkness has been delayed to early next year.
Styx: Shards of Darkness is now set to sneak its way onto Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC in early 2017.
