Steam has set a new top concurrent player number record some hours ago, with Valve's platform closing in at 34 million concurrent players.
Valve's platform set a new record yesterday (at 14:00 UTC) with 33.675.299 users being connected to the platform simultaneously. The previous peak CCU was 33.598.520 players. Interestingly, of those close to 34 million users, 10.653.243 users were playing a game, suggesting that roughly 2/3 of the connected players were doing other things (via @Morwull). One year ago, we reported that Steam surpassed 10 million users actually being in-game for the time ever. Back in October of 2022, Valve's platform broke the 30 million concurrent user record.

As covered by DSOgaming, Counter-Strike 2 was the most popular game when the new Steam CCU peak was set with over 1.2 million users playing the shooter. In second place was Dota 2 with over 730k players, followed by PUBG: Battlegrounds (556k), and Larian's Baldur's Gate 3 with over 287k concurrent players. It might not come as a surprise, but Rockstar's more-than-a-decade-old GTA V managed to grab the 6th spot with over 213k players - impressive for sure. Going by the success of GTA V and the hype over GTA 6, we can only imagine how successful the next GTA entry will be for Rockstar.
We guess it will only be a matter of time before Steam surpasses the 34 million CCU peak. We'll update you as soon as we have a new record.
