Starfield Mod Interplanetary Engines Adds In-System Travel Without Using the Console

One of the most common disappointments experienced by Starfield players when playing Bethesda's new game for the first time was the inability to travel within the same solar system.

While technically possible in the vanilla game, it takes many hours, making quick travel the only viable option. That changed roughly a month ago with the Slower than Light mod. However, that mod required using the in-game console to achieve the desired outcome.

Today, modder JustAnOrdinaryGuy uploaded a more elegant mod called Interplanetary Engines on Nexus. Interplanetary Engines adds purchasable standalone engines with much greater boost capabilities than the default ones. With these engines on their ships, players will be able to travel between planets more conveniently, as you can see in the video below.

The Interplanetary Engines Starfield mod supports various installation methods, such as Mod Organizer 2 (recommended by the author), Vortex, and manual installation. Those wishing to perform a manual install should follow these instructions:

  • Enable Archive Invalidation.
  • Download and install Plugins.txt Enabler.
  • Navigate to your game's root folder (the folder containing Starfield.exe).
  • Extract the Strings folder and ESM files into your game's root "Data" folder.
  • Navigate to your AppData\Local\Starfield folder.
  • Copy and paste the plugin name and its extension into your Plugins.txt (if it doesn't exist, create one).
  • Add an * (asterisk) in front of the plugin name: *InterplanetaryEngines.esm.

This is just one of several Starfield quality of life mods made by JustAnOrdinaryGuy. Here's a full list:

Yesterday, a group of modders also released the Starfield Luma Native HDR mod, which delivers a major visual improvement whether you play in SDR or HDR.
