Squadron 42 Gets One Hour of Vertical Slice Gameplay and Minimum System Requirements

Squadron 42

Squadron 42, the single-player campaign of Star Citizen, has been demonstrated by Cloud Imperium Games with over an hour of vertical slice gameplay and you can now rewatch it all with commentary from Game Director Chris Roberts, Technical Director of Content Sean Tracy, and Lead Writer Dave Haddock in case you missed it in the first place. We've embedded it at the end of the article.

The game was scheduled to become available in 2017 but clearly, that didn't turn out to be the case. Still, the gameplay video below shows progress is being made even though there is a lot more work to be done.

Meanwhile, Star Citizen's Alpha 3.0.0 was released to Live servers. In his latest report, Chris Roberts noted that there's still a lot of work to get the game's performance where developers would want it while announcing that the updated Production Roadmap will be available when the new website launches in January.

Pushing the boundaries of what's possible in real-time character rendering, Squadron 42 utilizes advanced performance capture techniques to translate all the nuance and power of the award-winning cast of actors including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham, Ben Mendelsohn, John Rhys Davies, Andy Serkis, and more to life. This was accomplished by using one-to-one facial scans to create hundreds of unique blendshapes along with animated wrinkle and blood flow maps. These work in conjunction with our high-fidelity facial rig and skeleton to bring a whole new level of realism to the more than 10 hours of performance captured for the game.
